Download

Free for Mac and Windows. Recording, transcription and notes need no account.

IT and managed deployment: the signed Windows installer (.exe) is also available as a direct download.

Mac

macOS 15 or newer, Apple silicon.

  1. Download the Mac build with the button above.
  2. Open the DMG and drag Softspoken into Applications.
  3. Open Softspoken from Applications, the way you open any app. macOS may ask you to confirm the first time, as it does for anything downloaded from the internet.
  4. Grant microphone and screen-recording access when asked. Screen recording is how the call's audio is captured; nothing visual is stored.

Windows

Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit.

  1. Install Softspoken from the Microsoft Store with the badge above. Microsoft delivers the install itself, so there is no browser download and no SmartScreen warning.
  2. It installs for your user only, so no administrator password is needed. Open Softspoken from the Start menu.
  3. Press the dictation hotkey or start a meeting; Windows will ask for microphone access once.

Setup starts with dictation: hold your hotkey, say a sentence and watch it appear. The speech model for meetings downloads in the background meanwhile, and a sample meeting shows what your notes will look like before you record your own.

Windows builds are Authenticode-signed by River Edge Ventures Pty Ltd, so Windows can verify the publisher before anything runs; the Microsoft Store delivers that same signed build. macOS builds are signed with the same company's Apple Developer ID and notarised by Apple, so macOS opens them without a warning about an unidentified developer. If you use the direct installer (.exe) instead of the Store, SmartScreen may show a caution while our certificate builds reputation; choose More info, then Run anyway.

Softspoken keeps itself current: when a new version ships, the app shows a notice and installs it on your say-so.
